Fuel subsidy removal: the dilemma of Nigeria

The removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government as a deliberate policy aimed at preserving and maximizing the wealth of oil petroleum producer said the sixth-highest/exporters, have drawn national and international discourse since Goodluck Jonathan Administration made his intentions known to the public.

Economists, including Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Federal Minister of finance, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Iweala, Okonji – Federal Minister of petroleum resources, Mrs. Deziani Allison-Madueke, among others, in a recent TV debate with representatives of the civil liberties organizations sought to assure Nigerians that the size of this policy is able to enhance the economic wealth of this country.

They have acknowledged that the subsidies that until now only of benefit to some Nigerians and foreign investors now being diversified to improve the lot of the majority of Nigerians less-privileged through the provision of infrastructure that will provide employment for citizens of full unemployment and improve education, health, power, water resources and agriculture.

Nigeria witnessed the fantastic debates will agree with me that it is a debate over the titans. The debate that reminds me of one of former President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida style during his reign, i.e. the fascist government throws open the debate on policy for incipient before the end of the execution or rejection.
